BoBo's Bed & Breakfast

Photo AlbumNov 11, '08 12:17 AM
for everyone
BoBo provides a home for 19 adoptees, and 2 shelter dogs. As you enjoy these pictures please be aware that a GREAT RESPONSIBILITY comes with parrot ownership. To maintain a great quality of life for them, one must almost constantly be cleaning. Cage bottoms get messy quickly since they spend the majority of their time inside. Here at BoBo's Bed & Breakfast, the "cleaning lady," is Cindi. She has lost 31 pounds since she started adopting birds because she is so busy providing a clean home for the flock. She does not work outside of the home. The birds are out as much as possible but predominantly inside their cages fulltime for their safety. When adopting pre-owned birds, one must consider their various backgrounds, socialization or lack thereof (which is almost always the case), physical needs, etc. Many of BoBo's cohabitants are elderly or special needs birds and the lovely photos show the best sides of their lives. Please do not get the impression that bird ownership is always a paradise; it's also a lot of WORK. The expense involved is also huge; cages, food, and veterinarian's bills are sometimes staggering. One must have a PASSION for birds to accomplish what is being done here at BoBo's Bed & Breakfast, and also a generous husband. LOL

Special thanks goes out to Denise Hosner for all her guidance.

Have I seen this before or did you get it new? What is it, a wall covering? With my Too's not only would the wall covering be gone, the wall along with it! ...

Cyndi, are these yours, too? Phenomanally beautiful, breathtakingly so.

This is a Perija Parakeet. It belongs to the Pyrrhura genus, which is the same genus that Green-Cheeked, Painted, and Black Capped Conures belong to. This bird was thought to have gone extinct about 30 years ago, then someone got 3 pictures of one in the forest in South America, Brazil, I think. So, lo and behold, the bird is not extinct! But we have no idea just how many are in existence at this time. The photo comes from the World Parrot Trust; they did an article on its re-emergence, recently.

The gorgeous birds in this picture are the world's rarest parrot! They are known as Spix's Macaws and they are extinct in the wild. Found now only in captivity, there is only about 100 of these birds in the world right now. A re-entry into the wild was attempted in the early 1990s but it was a failure. Now, researchers are working heartily to develop a program to return them to the wild, yet, avoid the problems encountered in the last attempt.

These are Spix's Macaws, the world's most rare parrot. There's only about 100 of them alive today and they are extinct in the wild. Conservation groups like the World Parrot Trust are working feverishly trying to save his beautiful bird.

This is my first parrot, and purchased at a pet store. He was the inspiration to help other parrots less fortunate.

OMG! Can I take Luther home ?! ;)
I have a sun conure and understand conure noise. But I fell in love with a Patti at a festival where a man had a tent educating kids on exotics. Unfortunately I am having a super hard time locating one :(

Jenn, what area of the country are you located in? I might be able to help you find a patti if you don't mind an adult one. They haven't been breeding well in captivity in the past few years - at least, that's what I've been told. People contact me once in a while with a bird they want rehomed. Pattis are great; they're loving, playful, little tykes. Cindi
