Have I seen this before or did you get it new? What is it, a wall covering? With my Too's not only would the wall covering be gone, the wall along with it! ...
What a beautiful bird! What kind is it?
Cyndi, are these yours, too? Phenomanally beautiful, breathtakingly so.
This is a Perija Parakeet. It belongs to the Pyrrhura genus, which is the same genus that Green-Cheeked, Painted, and Black Capped Conures belong to. This bird was thought to have gone extinct about 30 years ago, then someone got 3 pictures of one in the forest in South America, Brazil, I think. So, lo and behold, the bird is not extinct! But we have no idea just how many are in existence at this time. The photo comes from the World Parrot Trust; they did an article on its re-emergence, recently.
The gorgeous birds in this picture are the world's rarest parrot! They are known as Spix's Macaws and they are extinct in the wild. Found now only in captivity, there is only about 100 of these birds in the world right now. A re-entry into the wild was attempted in the early 1990s but it was a failure. Now, researchers are working heartily to develop a program to return them to the wild, yet, avoid the problems encountered in the last attempt.

This is my first parrot, and purchased at a pet store. He was the inspiration to help other parrots less fortunate.
OMG! Can I take Luther home ?! ;) I have a sun conure and understand conure noise. But I fell in love with a Patti at a festival where a man had a tent educating kids on exotics. Unfortunately I am having a super hard time locating one :(
Awhh..Well, she looks happy now :)
Jenn, what area of the country are you located in? I might be able to help you find a patti if you don't mind an adult one. They haven't been breeding well in captivity in the past few years - at least, that's what I've been told. People contact me once in a while with a bird they want rehomed. Pattis are great; they're loving, playful, little tykes. Cindi
